Coming back from the dead is a tabloid staple – just ask Elvis, Michael Jackson and Princess Diana, all still alive and well, hiding in plain sight, according to the rags. But this week sees the most exciting return from beyond the grave: tabloid title The Sun reappears on American newsstands with such sensational tales as UFOs invading the Arctic, a baby born with its grandfather’s forearm tattoo, and a brown bear that can read books “at third-grade level.” Part of American Media Inc’s tabloid stable along with the National Enquirer and the Globe, The Sun, last published in 2012, shuttered as the public’s appetite for outrageously improbable “news" faded. Perhaps we can credit President Donald Trump’s passion for fake news with the revival of The Sun, which breathlessly tells us that John the Baptist’s sandals have been found, curing blindness – and baldness! And of course, there’s the inevitable story that’s crazy-but-true: “Worms from Hell!” have been di...

When they got back from lunch at Cipriani Wall Street, Stracher began clearing...

Watch out for this trick. by Jeremy B. Merrill, and Alex Samuels, The Texas TribuneSome political groups on the left are borrowing a tactic from disinformation campaigns, placing ads on Facebook that pretend to be impartial information or unbiased news sources, when in fact the ads spread misleading facts about candidates. One ad, taken out by a group called “The Voter Awareness Project,” reopens old wounds between President Donald Trump and U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, implying that Trump is at odds with Cruz even as the president stumped for the senator last week near the end of Cruz’s surprisingly close re-election bid against Democrat Beto O’Rourke.“Trump’s trying to drain the swamp of do-nothing politicians. Trump says Lyin’ Ted Cruz has accomplished nothing for Texas, and he’s right,” the ad reads, referring to a 2016 tweet from when Trump was a candidate. But Trump and Cruz have since buried the hatchet. Trump has been endorsing Cruz for re-election since Februar...

On Friday’s broadcast of HBO’s “Real Time,” host Bill Maher stated that President Trump “sounds like he’s not condemning the bomber, it sounds to me like he’s partnering with him.” Maher said, “I think what I saw this week is the president of the United States using a domestic terrorist attack to threaten the American media, am I wrong about that? Because he tweeted, ‘A very big part of the Anger we see today in our society is caused by the purposely false and inaccurate reporting … Mainstream Media must clean up its act, FAST!’ That sounds like he’s not condemning the bomber, it sounds to me like he’s partnering with him.” Follow Ian Hanchett on Twitter @IanHanchett

In the United States, they start talking about the assassination of Donald Trump through the hands of a "Russian secret agent." Probably, the poisoning of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal was just a rehearsal for the assassination of Donald Trump. The New York Times published an article describing five scenarios for the development of relations between Trump and Putin. "It's hard not to speculate about what might happen next. To that end, we thought: Who better than some of today's most talented spy and crime novelists - Joseph Finder, Laura Lippman, Jason Matthews, Zoë Sharp and Scott Turow - to conjure possible outcomes?" the article says. One of the scenarios say that US President Trump will be killed by a Russian secret agent with the assistance from Trump's security guard who had voted for him but then got disappointed. The story is simple: the two drink all night, then a Russian fires his Makarov in Trump's back, but the gun misfires, and an American security guard gives his Gl...

Most American voters generally don’t like billionaires and corporations running politics, so the GOP is simply not letting them vote. The Republican Party is currently hoping to win nationwide using two simple elements: explicit and overt racism, and voter suppression. No “ideas”; no pitch for tax cuts; no discussion of their “replacement” for the Affordable Care Act; no push for better schools, hospitals, airports, roads or bridges; no promise for more and better jobs—none of these staples of the 2016 presidential campaign can be found in pretty much any Republican advertising today.Instead, the public Republican message is all about race or the subset of race, religion (“Muslim” stands in for “brown Arab” in GOP-speak) and “immigration” (aka brown people from south of our border). Republicans across the country are even recruiting white supremacist and neo-Nazi gangs to threaten or assault Democrats and their supporters, while Trump praises the criminal a...

"The president is willingly and knowingly doing the counter messaging for the Saudi kingdom. He floated the 'rogue attackers' theory and [is] now vouching for their transparent denials and vows to investigate." As "shocking and gruesome" new details surrounding Saudi Arabia's alleged torture and assassination of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi continued to trickle out on Tuesday—with anonymous Turkish officials telling the press that the prominent dissident was beaten, killed by lethal injection, and cut into pieces by the head autopsy doctor of the Saudi defense forces—U.S. President Donald Trump accepted wholesale Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman's increasingly implausible claim that he had zero knowledge of what "took place" two weeks ago inside the kingdom's Turkish consulate."Just spoke with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia who totally denied any knowledge of what took place in their Turkish consulate," Trump wrote on Twitter ...
