With less than four months left until the United Kingdom is due to exit on March 29, the world's fifth largest economy was facing the prospect of a disorderly no deal divorce or another divisive referendum on Brexit. Justice Secretary David Gauke warned that if she lost then Brexit would have to be delayed. Graham Brady, chairman of the Conservative Party's so-called 1922 committee, said the threshold of 15 percent of the parliamentary party seeking a confidence vote had been exceeded.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is due to attend final talks in Sweden on Thursday to support his envoy's efforts and meet delegates from the Iran-aligned Houthi group and the Saudi-backed government of Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi. Ambassadors from countries that are permanent members of the Security Council - China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States - joined talks with delegation heads on Tuesday, sources said. Western nations, some of which supply arms and intelligence to the Saudi-led coalition that intervened in Yemen in 2015, want an end to nearly four years of war that have killed tens of thousands of people and pushed millions to the brink of famine.

Less than four months until the United Kingdom is due to leave the European Union on March 29, Brexit was plunged into chaos on Monday when May accepted that British lawmakers would not accept her deal and withdrew a key vote on it. The ultimate outcome of Brexit is now uncertain. A costly British exit from the European Union without a negotiated deal is increasingly likely, France's European affairs minister said on Monday, after British Prime Minister Theresa May postponed a vote on a deal in the face of defeat. "We must not lose sight of the fact that despite the latest developments, a rejection of the withdrawal agreement is more and more likely," Nathalie Loiseau told lawmakers. "The risk of a no-deal exit would also be an exit that would be undoubtedly extremely costly for the United Kingdom but which would be damaging for the EU too." "Some are drawing up other scenarios and the confusion in London remains particularly strong," she added.

We, the People of Britain, do not want Brexit The British public made a mistake two years ago, easily led by a campaign of false promises and lies. Today REMAIN would win 60%-40% at the very least. The United Kingdom is not a democracy nor is it run on democratic principles. We like to think so, we like to preach so but in fact our political system of first-past-the-post means that in England political parties outside the main two (Labour and Conservative)  as a rule do not get represented in Parliament (with the exception of a few Liberals and the Green Party), meaning that you can get twenty per cent of the vote and have nobody in Parliament to represent you.

As you twiddle the dials on payments for the staff Christmas party, pixie relations, the Graveyard Patrol, werewolf holding cells, national branch offices, the staff exorcist, and travel expenses, the minister checks in with you every year to micromanage your choices and also demand further cuts, even as you learn of werewolf outbreaks and rogue vampirism. WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States and United Kingdom have reached an agreement to maintain air service between the two countries after Brexit. U.K. Transport Secretary Chris Grayling confirmed the so-called open-skies agreement on Wednesday. The deal will maintain the same access to the U.S. that planes flying from the U.K. enjoy under the current U.S.-Europe air treaty. The U.K. will no longer be under that U.S.-Europe treaty after it leaves the European Union. Airlines for America, a trade group representing most big U.S. airlines, is praising the agreement, saying it will ensure the continuation of key transatlantic routes. Flights between the two countries carry about 20 million passengers a year, accounting for nearly one-third of all air travel between the U.S. and Europe.

Why do pop artists have to get involved in Christmas? In 1940, Irving Berlin penned “White Christmas,” that woozy, mournful standard that wished for snow from a sunny California office. In 1941, popular and handsome actor/singer Bing Crosby recorded it, somewhat haplessly (he didn’t think it was a hit). A version was included in the 1942 film Holiday Inn; Crosby sits at a piano, duets with co-star Marjorie Reynolds, and at one point, plays the bells on a Christmas tree with his pipe. It won an Oscar that year for Best Original Song, and its legacy has endured: probably the most recognizable pop Christmas song of all time, it’s sold over 50 million copies to date. After that, the music industry realized that Christmas was a lucrative commodity. “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” was fine and dandy, but audiences wanted holiday music that wasn’t penned in the 12th century—music that more accurately reflected their culture and everyday lives. They were accommodated. After...
