Donald Trump, the US president, threatened on Tuesday to cut off aid to Honduras unless the country took steps to halt a migrant caravan, which has doubled in size since it set off from a gang-plagued city on Saturday. The group, now believed to be 3,000 people strong, was confronted by riot police on the Honduras-Guatemalan border, but by Monday evening had managed to cross. The organiser of the northern-bound group, Bartolo Fuentes, a Honduran former politician, was then detained by Guatemalan police. Mr Trump tweeted that he was considering ending financial assistance to Honduras, worth nearly $66 million (£50m) in 2019. "The United States has strongly informed the President of Honduras that if the large Caravan of people heading to the U.S. is not stopped and brought back to Honduras, no more money or aid will be given to Honduras, effective immediately!" he said. It was not clear how Honduras would be able to exercise control over people who had already left the country...

China and the United States proceed from a trade war to political confrontation. Asian stock exchanges collapsed last week along with stock exchanges of Europe and the USA. Will Beijing take it to the limit in the game against Washington?"The macroeconomic impact would be serious, not only if the United States took action, but especially if other countries were to retaliate, notably those who would be most affected, such as Canada, Europe, and Germany in particular," Christine Lagarde, the chief of the International Monetary Fund said last week. However, nationalists in power in the United States and China are indifferent to what globalist Lagarde says. The main engine of change is Donald Trump, who ruins the WTO, raises tariff barriers in an effort to make America great and preserve businesses in China for American companies. Western journalists say that China has run out of symmetrical responses by raising tariffs to the United States. As a way out of the crisis, China may get rid of...

A growing group of more than 1,500 Honduran migrants headed for the United States moved toward the Guatemalan border on Sunday, witnesses and organizers said. The migrants, who included families of adults and children, and women carrying babies, began a march on Saturday from the violent northern city of San Pedro Sula, days after U.S. Vice President Mike Pence called on Central America to stop mass migration. The U.S. Embassy in Honduras said it was deeply worried about the group and that people were being given "false promises" of being able to enter the United States.

Trump is arguably the logical culmination of some strains of right-wing evangelical Christianity in America This Advent season, while watching Donald Trump in front of a garishly green-and-red banner which proclaims “Make America Great Again,” take the opportunity to reflect on the Faustian bargain which allowed conservative evangelical Christians to “Keep Christ in Christmas” while seemingly divorcing Christianity from Christ. That Republican supply side economics, exemplified by Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell’s cruel tax “reform,” contradicts Matthew 5:3 is clear. That Trump’s draconian immigration policy, which involves splitting families apart, violates the essence of Exodus 22:21 is obvious. And it shouldn’t have to be said that the new nationalism, this new fascism, with its “blood and soil” metaphysic, stands in opposition to the sublime universalism of Galatians 3:28.For those 81% of white evangelicals who voted for Trump, and more troublingly for the...

Among Republicans, it has been a regular talking point, practically a piece of conventional wisdom, that confirming Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court before the midterm elections would help motivate their voters to go to the polls.A new survey reveals that Democrats may actually be more motivated to vote because of Kavanaugh than Republicans.According to the results of the Politico/Morning Consult poll, which was conducted entirely after Kavanaugh's tempestuous hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, 46 percent of voters believe that the Senate "made the wrong decision" by confirming Kavanaugh while only 40 percent said that the Senate was correct in doing so. The Trump administration plans to limit China's influence in the world. The recent actions of the American authorities in relation to China can hardly be called friendly. The exchange of mutual sanctions resembles a game, but experts are rather pessimistic in their forecasts. China remains calm, but one must admit that tensions are growing, and contradictions and mutual claims between Washington and Beijing are intensifying. Is the world witnessing another Cold War? Most Americans, being preoccupied with their domestic problems, do not pay much attention to the changes that have recently taken place in the policy of the Trump administration in relation to China. US Vice President Mike Pence, speaking last week at the Hudson Institute, outlined basic changes in USA's relations with China. He criticised a few decisions that the Chinese authorities have recently made. A new report says the columnist has been murdered in Saudi Arabia. The New York Times reported Tuesday that Jamal Khashoggi, an American resident and a columnist for the Washington Post, was killed by the Saudi Arabian government, according to Turkish officials. Khashoggi has been missing for more than a week. Since he has been a prominent Saudi dissident, many American politicians and defenders of press freedoms were concerned for his safety when he disappeared. The Post obtained photos of Khashoggi entering a Saudi consulate last Tuesday, where he had last been seen alive, and the Turkish officials now believe he was killed there. The Saudi government has denied any involvement and said Khashoggi left the consulate alive.Among those who evinced little serious concern for Khashoggi's wellbeing was President Donald Trump. When asked by reporters on Monday about the disappearance on Monday, Trump said, "I am concerned about it. Spoiler: It's a lot. Last October, Vice President Mike Pence very pointedly walked out of an Indianapolis Colts football game to register his disgust with NFL players kneeling during the national anthem. Pence's action was met with widespread mocking and condemnation by people who saw the whole thing as a stunt. As it turns out, it was a very expensive stunt. As the Huffington Post reported on Saturday, the taxpayer tab for Pence's walkout was in six figures:Newly released documents from the Department of Homeland Security show more clearly that Pence’s early departure was a stunt — and not a cheap one at that. The Secret Service on Friday released receipts and folios indicating more than $75,000 in expenses, including hotels, travel and additional security measures. But this is hardly the extent of the bill. As The Washington Post reported in the days after the game, Air Force Two costs approximately $43,000 an hour to operate, which the Post estimated meant a total bill o...

The US is in “fundamental disagreement” with China over trade and foreign policy, Washington’s top diplomat said, as relations between the two superpowers continue to deteriorate. Mike Pompeo, US secretary of state, arrived in Beijing on Monday to brief China on his visit to Pyongyang and his latest talks with Kim Jong-un, the North Korea leader. But recent diplomatic spats, in which the US have ramped up its trade war and accused China of meddling in the midterm election, appeared to dominate, manifesting in a frosty public exchange between Mr Pompeo and Wang Yi, Chia’s foreign minister. “We have grave concerns about the actions that China has taken,” Mr Pompeo told a press conference while standing next to his counterpart.
