For the first 13 days of Jamal Khashoggi’s disappearance, Saudi Arabia held fast to its official position: We had no involvement; he left the consulate safely; any suggestion we are responsible is a political smear.  But last night things began to shift. Under intense pressure from Washington and business leaders around the world, Riyadh now appears to be preparing to acknowledge that Mr Khashoggi was in fact killed inside the consulate.  The narrative they plan to present, according to the New York Times, is that the Saudi government ordered its operatives to interrogate Mr Khashoggi but that something went wrong and the journalist was accidentally killed.  Panicked spies then reportedly hid his body and launched a cover-up, unbeknownst to Mohammed bin Salman, the crown prince of Saudi Arabia and country's de facto leader. The person who will be blamed is described as “a Saudi intelligence official who was a friend of the crown prince”.    The explanation has a clear...

Turkey has demanded that Saudi Arabia allow police to search the Istanbul consulate where a prominent Saudi journalist disappeared last week, a Turkish official said, as the US called for a "thorough investigation".  Yasin Aktay, an advisor to the Turkish president, said Saudi Arabia had not yet agreed to let investigators search the facility as part of their investigation into the fate of Jamal Khashoggi. Mr Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist who criticised the Saudi government, has not been seen since last Tuesday, when he entered the consulate to file paperwork.  Turkish officials have said privately they believe Mr Khashoggi was murdered and dismembered inside the consulate but Turkey’s government has not publicly made the explosive accusation.  Donald Trump, in the first expression of concern by his administration on Mr Khashoggi's disappearance, said he was troubled by reports about the journalist's fate. "I am concerned about it. I don't...

On Monday’s broadcast of CNN’s “AC360,” Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) stated she believes both Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez. Gillibrand said, “I’ve heard from both sides, and I believe Dr. Blasey Ford and I believe Ms. Ramirez. Both of their stories are credible. Unlike his, where he wouldn’t actually answer the question or say why he wouldn’t be interviewed by the FBI. That’s not the response of someone who wants to plead his innocence. I believe both of these women because there are corroborating witnesses who have testimony that is relevant to these accusations. Dr. Blasey Ford told her therapist five years ago, and her husband. She told a friend a year ago. She told a reporter before Kavanaugh was named. She’s already submitted to a lie detector test, and she’s asking the FBI to do the investigation. That, to me, is credible. Those are the hallmarks of truth. And then you have all this other info...

The New Yorker’s article comes after the allegations of Palo Alto University psychology professor Christine Blasey Ford. Just when it seemed that the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court couldn’t become any more intense or controversial, two bombshells dropped over the weekend. On Sunday, September 23, Jane Mayer and Ronan Farrow reported in The New Yorker that Deborah Ramirez—a 53-year-old woman who knew Kavanaugh at Yale University in the 1980s—has emerged with more allegations of sexual misconduct on the part of President Donald Trump’s nominee. Ramirez is alleging that at a Yale dorm party during the 1983/1984 academic year, an intoxicated Kavanaugh exposed his penis and placed it in front of her face. And in addition to Ramirez’ allegations—which Kavanaugh is vehemently denying—...
