WASHINGTON – If President Trump is found to have directed Michael Cohen to pay off porn star Stormy Daniels and Playboy Playmate Karen McDougal, those would be “impeachable offenses,” according to the incoming chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.). “Well, they would be impeachable offenses, whether they are important enough to...

Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,” likely incoming chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) said if President Donald Trump did direct his lawyer Michael Cohen to commit federal campaign finance felonies by paying off women Trump has extramarital relationships with not only was it a “massive fraud,” but it is also likely an impeachable offense. Partial transcript as follows: TAPPER: I want to read a key line from the southern district of New York filing Friday. Quote ‘With respect to both payments Cohen acted with the intent to influence the 2016 presidential election in particular and as Cohen himself has now admitted with respect to both payments, he acted in coordination with and at the direction of individual one.’ Individual one, of course, is President Trump. So, that’s crystal clear. Federal prosecutors are saying that the president ordered Michael Cohen to commit two federal campaign finance felonies...

The most extraordinary thing about the saga of Valentino Dixon is that it is not extraordinary at all. It is, of course, unusual and wonderful that Dixon developed his gift for sketching golf courses in prison—and that his talent drew the meticulous attention of Golf Digest’s Max Adler—but the specifics of the case look all too familiar. Dixon’s prosecution represents a textbook study in everything that can go wrong in the criminal-justice system—and, all too often, does.

On Tuesday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “The Last Word,” incoming House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) stated he is considering legislation that would pause the timing of the statute of limitations during a president’s term in office so that it is easier to prosecute presidents after they leave office for any crimes they may have committed. Nadler said, “[W]e ought to, and I’m considering introducing legislation to this effect, toll the statute of limitations on any president while he is president, so that he can’t be above the law. If he can’t be impeached for improper conduct, if there are crimes, he should be made to be prosecuted.” Follow Ian Hanchett on Twitter @IanHanchett

Monday on MSNBC’s “Hardball,” political reporter for the Daily Beast Betsy Woodruff said Democrats are “lining up” to get on the House Judiciary Committee because it would be presiding over “any potential impeachment,” of President Donald Trump. Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) is the likely incoming chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. Matthews asked, “Betsy, starting January 3, the president faces a second enemy. It’s like Germany and World War II. The West and the East coming after them, the Democrats and the Congress. They will be subpoenaing everything, from the tax returns to the latest filings that they can’t get automatically from Mueller. They’re going to go after him for everything.” Woodruff said, “That’s right. And those two things to keep an eye on. First, the White House is in a mad dash to lawyer up for the White House counsel’s office has atrophied the last few years. They’r...

Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” likely incoming chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) said Michael Cohen’s admission that he lied to Congress about negotiations for a Trump Tower in Moscow suggested Russia may have leverage over the president. Nadler said, “The fact that he was lying to the American people about doing business in Russia, and that the Kremlin knew he was lying, gave the Kremlin a hold over him. And one question we have now is: Does the Kremlin still have a hold over him because of other lies they know about.” He added, “One question has always been why was the president so obsequious to Putin from the beginning of the campaign up to the present day. And it may be that it’s because the Kremlin has leverage over the president, which is a terrible thing if true.” Follow Pam Key on Twitter @pamkeyNEN

Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” current House Judiciary Committee ranking member and presumed future committee chairman Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) said President Donald Trump knew his former personal lawyer Michael Cohen lied to Congress about Trump’s business in Russia. When asked if Trump knew Cohen was lying, Nadler said, “We have a president who lies incessantly to the American people about big matters and small matters, who surrounds himself with people who lie incessantly to the American people. The key fact now is that the time that he can get away with lying to the American people all the time and evading accountability is coming to an end, and I do think that this is a very serious matter.” He added, “Among other things, the fact that he was lying to the American people about doing business in Russia and that the Kremlin knew he was lying gave the Kremlin a hold over him. In the wake of President Donald Trump’s former personal attorney, Michael Cohen, pleading guilty to lying to Congress in regards to the investigation into Russian collusion in the 2016 election, Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) on CNN’s “New Day” said President Donald Trump “is right to be nervous right now.” Nadler reasoned Friday, “[I]t appears time is running out when he can hold himself above the law. “One of the central focuses of the investigation is we have known, it has become very clear that the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians in trying to subvert the election –” he continued before host Alisyn Camerota interrupted. “Hold on,” Camerota stated. “How can you say that so definitively, that they’ve colluded?” “Well, the fact that Manafort and Trump Jr. met with Russian agents who told them they wanted to give them dirt on Hillary as part of the Russian government’s attempt t...

That investigation is of utmost importance in making sure we adhere to the rule of law and that the administration is held accountable.
